HYDROTHERMAL TREATMENT
CONVERSION OF RESIDUES INTO VALUABLE RESOURCES
Hydrothermal treatment (HTT) or Hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) utilizes subcritical water to treat high moisture waste or agricultural residues. It can upgrade waste materials into fuel, fertilizer, and biochar. Research in WBC Laboratory focuses on HTC technology as a backbone to convert unutilized resources to value-added material. We also perform some research works on Hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) that has an extractive function to facilitate chemical production from biomass.
msw treatment and rdf production
HTT is very suitable for decentralized waste management system. It can convert high moisture mixed MSW into homogeneous products. The treated MSW can be upgraded by pelleting process to obtain RDF.
biomass pellet production
Biomass pellet can be produced from palm oil empty fruit bunch (EFB) by HTT. It can increase calorific value of product as well as remove potassium which may cause slagging and fouling in the combustion furnace.
Activated carbon production
Biochar can be produced from HTC of high moisture biomass precursors. With the additional activation process, activated carbon can be produced from HTC products. Activated carbon offers variety of applications.
