PYROLYSIS & CATALYTIC REFORMING

ENERGY & METAL RECOVERY FROM E-WASTE

Electronic waste becomes serious problem to society and environment. Recycling method is difficult due to its permanent characteristic and chemical composition. Research activity in WBC Laboratory aims to find the method for e-waste recycling by energy and metal recovery.

E-waste consists of plastic, resin, and metal. Majority of e-waste is PCB board embedded with other chips and electronic devices. This brings difficulty in disassembly and recycle. Open burning of e-waste to recover metal is very dangerous to human health and environment. Therefore, another integrated solution is necessary.

After high value IC chips are manually removed, the discarded PCB can be thermally decomposed into solid char, ash, oil, and gaseous products via pyrolysis and catalytic reforming process. These products can be utilized appropriately to enhance economical feasibility of the process.
